Abidjan is the largest city and economic capital of Ivory Coast, located on the southern coast of West Africa. Ivory Coast, or Côte d'Ivoire, is renowned as a land of warm hospitality, joy, and good mood, with Abidjan at its vibrant heart. It is here that the popular phrase 'Abidjan est doux' [Abidjan is sweet] originated, capturing the city's endearing charm and lively spirit.
Abidjan is a cultural crossroads, known for its high level of industrialisation and urbanisation. The city is divided into several districts, including Cocody. Abidjan's cultural scene is vibrant, with a blend of traditional and modern influences, making it a dynamic and cosmopolitan metropolis.

Abidjan experiences a tropical monsoon climate characterised by high temperatures and humidity throughout the year. The city's weather is marked by two distinct seasons: Dry season and rainy season. Overall, Abidjan enjoys abundant sunshine throughout the year. The city's climate is warm and humid year-round, making it essential to plan visits during the drier months for more comfortable condition.

Interesting Fact: Ivory Coast successfully hosted the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, being 'the best AFCON to date'. The tournament, which took place from the 13th January to 11th February 2024, was held across five cities, including Abidjan, Bouake, Korhogo, San Pedro, and Yamoussoukro. The country's efforts culminated in a thrilling final at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, where Ivory Coast defeated Nigeria 2-1 to claim their third AFCON title. This achievement not only showcased Ivory Coast's ability to host major international events but also highlighted the country's resilience and growth since its civil war ended in 2011.
